Whether we're touring the Amalfi coast, kayaking in Thailand, or lounging at home, we're chasing the sun as soon as the UV index surpasses 7. What better way to flash your golden tan—and golden jewelry—than with just that...flash! The trick to achieving dreamy beach photos: the flash of a digital camera lighting up a pastel ombré sunset. It's as simple as that to look like a mermaid-washed-up-on-shore.
Luckily, point-and-shoot cameras can be found everywhere. Try searching your local thrift stores or second-hand websites; sellers on eBay are constantly listing rare finds for good deals. If there's no luck there, ask your parents (they may have one lying around from their teenage days). Any old camera with flash will work, but my favs include the Canon PowerShot and Nikon COOLPIX. They're portable, perfect to take on any trip to capture your summer adventures.

The best moment of the day to take your dreamy beach photo would be during the sunset. The sky becomes a gradient of blue, yellow, orange, and most importantly, purple. The streak of purple that typically appears at the horizon will make your pictures look like they came straight out of a pastel watercolor painting.

Finally, no insta-worthy photo is complete without a makeup look that's just as envied. Keep your makeup natural; curl your lashes, fill in your brows, and use concealer to cover up red spots, but don't be afraid to go heavy on the blush. Use the 'W' technique: apply a peach or coral-colored blush on the apples of your cheeks and nose bridge in a 'W' shape to achieve a sunkissed look. Keep your lip products matte for a pouted lip look (your lip combo came off from sipping on margaritas all day), or layer on gloss for a wet lip look (the candid pics were taken right after getting out of the water). And don't forget that flash emphasizes oils on your face, so keep powder or blotting paper with you for touch-ups. Greasy does not mean glowy!
