Taking inspiration from the beauty of flourishing meadows for Collection I, "Bambi", to the nostalgia of dancing on pointe for Collection II, "Swan Lake", Violets 4 Roses never fails to satisfy the tastes of a niche group of girls. V4R impresses us again with her newest collection, "Sleeping Beauties". Starting as a small niche business has helped V4R stand out—with detailed embroidered bows and experimental designs that become fan-favorites—having features that no fast fashion brand can recreate.
Hailey Huynh, the founder and designer behind Violets 4 Roses, takes pride in being a small business, giving her the freedom to follow the journey of each piece, from forming the concept to watching it come to life on her sewing desk. Despite running V4R all on her own, she employs the help of her closest friends, allowing her business to run efficiently, shipping out custom-made-to-order garments within a week to shooting photoshoots that look like they were taken on the set of a Sofia Coppola film. Q: What inspired the pieces in "Sleeping Beauties", and how was creating this collection different from other times?
A: This collection was heavily inspired by vintage print ads! I fell in love with some photos I had found on Pinterest where they were advertising beds, sheets, pjs and so much more. Once I saw these prints, I knew what direction I was going in for this collection and based it on my mood board. When creating this collection, my approach was actually really different than my other ones. For "Swan Lake" and "Bambi", I was messing around and just seeing what looked good and decided to put it into a collection. I didn't really have any sort of direction going into these so I created concepts as I went on. For "Sleeping Beauties", I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. I created pieces based on my mood board and ideas so everything fit a certain aesthetic. I also took lots of inspiration from Brigette Bardot. Pictures I had found searching on Pinterest of her in bed and sitting by a telephone played a big part in the photoshoot for this collection. For this collection, I felt a sense of direction. Something in my heart was guiding me while I curated for this collection.
Q: Your designs are an absolute dream. Are there any brands that you take inspiration from or dream of working with?
A: Thank you!! I adore Mirror Palais, and it would be an absolute dream to work with them. I love everything they do, and I love to take inspiration from their photoshoots. I also love to take inspiration from vintage pieces! Lace and ribbons are what all my pieces are centered around!
Q: How would you describe the personality and lifestyle of a Violets 4 Roses girl?
A: Something I have noticed is that all the people who wear Violets 4 Roses are breathtakingly gorgeous, and they are always the sweetest of girls. It is made for girls who take pleasure in getting ready in the morning and winding down for bed. Girls who can't live without their lip gloss and put on charming outfits whenever they get the chance. Girls who pick flowers and lay in fields. The song Violets for Roses by Lana Del Rey is what inspired my brand, and I feel like the song embodies the brand and the girls who wear it. V4R girls are kind and sweet, and I love them with all my heart.
Q: You have multiple talented artists helping run Violets 4 Roses, assuming the roles of models/talent, stylists, photographers, and even assistants. How are you able to coordinate everything?
A: When I have an upcoming photoshoot, I ask friends of mine to model and help assist! Having talented friends certainly has its perks… On my very first photoshoot, I had a pretty extensive team, I asked my friend Brandon to shoot the campaign and had my good friend, Kale, model. I also brought on another really good friend of mine to help assist along with a close friend of Kale! It was so much fun shooting all together the process was something like I've never experienced.
Recently, I shot my third collection where it was just Kale and me! She did her hair and makeup herself as I set up my bedroom for the shoot. Honestly, it was pretty hard with just the two of us because I had to juggle taking photos on three different cameras and taking videos. Coordinating everything takes so much time and effort, and I like to stay busy as much as possible, so I feel like it mixes well. Staying organized and writing everything out is what helps me the most. I swear, the key to staying calm is to create a Google slide!

Q: Your pieces seem to be targeted for s/s weather with simple yet chic designs: do you hope to work with different materials or incorporate different prints or patterns into your designs?
A: Yes of course! In my upcoming collection, I feature a knit dress, and it is extremely soft, I am absolutely in love with it. I would love to feature patterns in my future collections but I am still not sure where to source things from. I currently make everything from my home on my little sewing desk so you could definitely call me a small business.
Q: How would you style a white bolero?
A: I would style it with our White Swan Cami from the “Swan Lake” collection along with a pair of blue jeans! Blue mid-rise jeans are an absolute staple in my closet; I wear them almost every day. I would pair it with my black kina carels, of course, and tons of vintage gold jewelry.

Q: Lastly, do you hope to continue Violets 4 Roses as a passion project, or do you hope to expand it and turn it into a career? What do you want to get out of your experience running V4R?
A: Hopefully, if V4R grows big enough, I can sustain the brand and turn it into a career! I recently turned seventeen, so I definitely have a long way to go! I currently work on V4R on the side along with my part-time job and school, so my schedule is packed. But I love to sew, and when I see other people wearing my pieces, it truly brings me joy.
