One of my favorites, and a rather popular example of a beautiful, capacious bag on the more affordable side, is the Longchamp Le Pliage Tote. This bag is worth the hype, especially since it's around $155 for a high-quality and flexible bag that will hold through consistent wear, thanks to the water-resistant recycled nylon. It has a zip and snap button closure, and the two inside pockets allow you to organize your smaller items. It can also be folded into a compact form for easy storage when not in use.

Most colors we often see of this bag are black and dark blue, so if you love the design but would prefer it to be a statement piece, you could go for one of the less popular colors or take a look at the Le Pliage Green L Tote Bag, in which the bag and its flap are the same color.
